Description

For 11 days, your home will be the Northern Sri Lanka that is a world apart from the rest of country.
The region had always been closer to southern India than to Colombo and was repeatedly settled and invaded by Tamil migrants from southern India and has retained a unique character and culture, one which owes as much to Hindu India as to Buddhist Sri Lanka.

The thirty year old war, which engulfed the area, had set the clock backwards in the Northern Peninsular, where LTTE terrorists and the Sri Lankan Army were engulfed in intense fighting until the war ended in 2009.
The region is gradually emerging from its long years of isolation and fighting, and the painful process of rebuilding of shattered towns and villages, de-mining fields, restoring roads and returning refugees to their former homes is likely to continue for some time to come.

For the explorer, the north is Sri Lanka’s final frontier, and offers an opportunity to explore a region emerging from over twenty years of isolation and civil war.

Itinerary

Day 1 and 2 - COLOMBO
Arrival to Sri Lanka, transfer to Colombo and overnight stay at the hotel.
Although it's unlikely it will reclaim its 19th-century moniker 'the garden city of the East', Colombo has nevertheless emerged as a must-see stop in Sri Lanka. No longer just the sprawling city you have to endure on your way to the beaches, it has become a worthy destination in its own right and makes an excellent start – or finish – to your Sri Lankan adventures. Colombo’s cosmopolitan side supports ever-more stylish eateries, galleries and shops. Surprises abound: with a little exploration you'll find great local food, characterful shops and tiny, convivial cafes. Meanwhile, a building boom like no other is transforming the city's skyline.
Day 3 - CHILAW
Breakfast at hotel, proceed to Chilaw and overnight stay at the hotel.
Chilaw is a large town in Puttalam District, North Western Province, Sri Lanka. It's governed by an urban council. The town is located, 80 km away from the capital Colombo via Negombo.
Day 4 - ANURADHAPURA (Fishing Village)
Breakfast at hotel, proceed to Anuradhapura and overnight stay at the hotel.
The capital of Sri Lanka from the 05th Century B.C. to the end of the 10th Century A.D. was the most celebrated of Sri Lanka’s ancient ruined cities. The city’s greatest treasures are its dagobas constructed of bricks and are hemispherical in shape. The most notable of these dagobas are the Ruvanveliseya dating back to the 2nd Century B.C. and is 300 feet in diameter, the Jetawanarama is 370 feet and the Thuparama Dagoba is enshrined with the collarbone of the Buddha.
Day 5 - JAFFNA
Breakfast at hotel, proceed to Trincomalee and overnight stay at the hotel.
Jaffna, the main city of Jaffna district (until the year 1824, the district was called Waligama) of the Northern Province is located in the northernmost peninsula of Sri Lanka. The Jaffna district is one of the 25 districts organized into the nine provinces, an artificial creation of the Colonial British (1815-1948) for the purposes of administration of the Island of Sri Lanka, then called Ceylon.
Day 6 - SIGIRIYA
Breakfast at hotel, proceed to en-route visit for Mihintale and overnight stay at the hotel in Sigiriya.
Sigiriya is a “World Heritage Site” and the 5th Century “Fortress in the Sky” which is perhaps the most fantastic single wonder of the Island. It is also known as Lion Rock because of the huge lion that used to stand at the entrance to the Palace on the summit of the 600-foot high rock. On its summit are the foundations of the Royal Palace, Water Tanks to supply water and all other buildings and at the edges the guardhouses.
Day 7 - POLONNARUWA
Breakfast at hotel, proceed to Polonnaruwa, return to Sigiriya and overnight stay at the hotel.
Polonnaruwa, the 2nd most ancient kingdom of Sri Lanka is an interesting mix of Buddhist and Hindu structures that are a testament to the different kings who reigned over this ancient kingdom. Polonnaruwa rose to prominence between the 11th and 13th centuries and thrived during the reign of the famous monarch, King Parakramabahu I, who did much to create a resplendent city. His greatest achievement was the construction of the sea of Parakrama, a huge water reservoir spanning an area of 6280 acres.
Day 8 - KANDY
Breakfast at hotel, proceed to en-route visit of Dambulla and Matale.
Overnight stay at the hotel in Kandy.
Kandy is Sri Lanka's second largest city located in the mountainous center of the island. It is considered by some as the cultural capital of Sri Lanka, and was declared a world heritage site by UNESCO in 1988. A cooler climate and smaller size make it much more pleasant and accessible than Colombo. The city has a compact downtown area surrounded by a beautiful tropical rain forest hill country on all sides with exotic animals such as monkeys running around in the wild.
Day 9 - KANDY
Breakfast at hotel, proceed to en-route visit of Ramboda and overnight stay at the hotel in Kandy.
Day 10 - NEGOMBO
Breakfast at hotel, drive to en-route visit of Pinnawala and Colombo.
Overnight stay at the hotel in Negombo.
Famous fishing village North of Colombo, with a Dutch built Canal. The canal itself is a hive of activity with fishermen traveling up and down in their dailypainted boats. On the shores of the canal you will find many homes and many species of birds including spectacular Kingfishers.
Day 11 - Departure
Breakfast at hotel, drive to airport.

Day 10 - KANDY or PASSIKUDHA
Breakfast at hotel, transfer to Kandy or Passikudha and overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 11 - TRINCOMALEE or PASSIKUDHA
Breakfast at hotel, transfer to Trincomalee or Passikudha.
Overnight stay at the hotel.
Trincomalee, one of the finest natural deep-water harbors in the world is located 257 km north-east of Colombo, which is considered as the commercial hub of Sri Lanka. Trincomalee is home to the fine beaches of Nilaveli, Uppuveli and the off-shore Pigeon Island. Recently Trincomalee has become popular as a Whale Watching destination as well. The Dive centers at Nilaveli and Uppuveli offer tourists the opportunity to enjoy their holidays in diving, snorkeling and swimming.
Day 12 - TRINCOMALEE or PASSIKUDHA
Breakfast at hotel, transfer to Trincomalee or Passikudha.
Overnight stay at the hotel.
These spectacular back-to-back beaches, 34km north of Batticaloa, present as stark – and confusing – a juxtaposition as you could imagine. At the northern tip of the peninsula on a tightly enclosed bay, the breathtaking white sands of sickle-shaped Passekudah beach are being developed as a kind of mini-Cancun, a government-driven 'Special Economic Zone' with oodles of luxury hotels planned to ring the bay. In contrast, Kalkudah beach, 2km east and south along the ocean is mostly deserted – save the odd fisherman and his boat.
Day 13 - TRINCOMALEE or PASSIKUDHA
Breakfast at hotel, transfer to Trincomalee or Passikudha.
Overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 14 - NEGOMBO
Breakfast at hotel, transfer to Negombo.
Overnight stay at the hotel.
